Laser Hair removal, much like any other form of epilation is dependent on the texture of the hair . However it is important to remember that it works best on coarse & dark hair. This is because, the roots of coarse hair are easily identifiable (because of the melanin pigment) by the light & hence are destroyed more easily. Having said this , not all hair follicles are targeted at the same time. The hair grows in three stages: Anagen, Catagen & Telogen. The Anagen phase or the growing stage is where the hair follicle is active . The Catagen phase or the intermediate stage is where the hair follicle is resting . This stage of the hair growth cycle usually lasts about one to two weeks or so. Finally the Telogen phase or the shedding stage is where the life cycle of the hair is completed & it prepares to shed. This phase would last  anywhere from three to four years.  Only those hair follicles that are in the Anagen phase are targeted by the laser . Depending on the hair cycles, atleast three to four sessions are required to to notice a significant difference. Usually after six to eight treatments you will only need top up maintenance treatments 1-2 times/ year, depending on the rate of your hair growth. Remember that it is really LASER hair ‘reduction’ and the treatment won’t completely destroy the hair roots.
