Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease for which there is yet no cure. There are a number of medicines available for the Treatment of Psoriasis.  However most of these are in the form of messy creams that one has to apply daily, or tablets and injections that suppress the immune system and need to be taken long term.

There have been a number of relatively safe promising anti-diabetic medications that have recently been shown to help psoriasis.  The authors in the article below describe a promising new anti-diabetic drug called Liraglutide that they accidentally found to significantly help in the treatment of concomitant psoriasis, in three patients.

Liraglutide is a drug with very few side effects. Nausea is the most commonly reported side effect (2·8%) and more importantly the drug does not routinely require specific monitoring. This may be of particular benefit in those with diabetes and obesity, but also in patients with severe psoriasis where immunosuppressive drugs are contraindicated. Watch this space…..
