Drinking excessive amounts of certain types of tea can certainly can cause skin necrosis, according to the following report published in the British Journal of Dermatology.

skin-necrosisThe authors report a patient who presented with necrosis (death) of the tips of his fingers associated with kidney failure, attributed to drinking excessive amounts of Dandelion tea. Dandelion tea contains a salt called ‘oxalate’ which if ingested in excessive amounts, leads to deposition of the salt in the tiny blood vessels in the skin, leading to loss of blood supply to the skin and underlying tissues. This can lead to necrosis of the tissue, as seen in the picture.
