Microdermabrasion is a general term for the application of tiny rough grains to buff away the surface layer of skin. All of the action in microdermabrasion takes place at the topmost layer of your skin, wherein it superficially and painlessly abrades (like fine sandpaper) the surface of the skin. This has an effect of encouraging new skin cells to grow from underneath and replace the older cells on top. However there is also some evidence to suggest that unlike salon microdermabrasion with creams etc, medical microdermabrasion which also uses a vacuum device, helps in re-modeling the collagen in your skin and helps is making some types of scars less obvious. Some experts believe that it might also have an anti-aging effect by improving the texture of your skin. Over a year with periodic microdermabrasion, skin will regain its firmness and becomes smooth.
