Question

Hi I am an 18 year old male and have been using monocycline for a couple months to get rid of my acne and it has worked and I am ready to get off of it now because I know it isn’t good to stay on an antibiotic for too long. Although I don’t have any more pimples, I still have red marks left over that have not faded away after 4 months. I recently bought a product called meladerm but I don’t know if it is working. but I was wondering if you knew of any special products that would help me fade these red marks and even out my skin tone. I’ve been looking up chemical peels but don’t know if that is right for me.

Answer

Thanks for visiting my blog. Meladerm is a gentle chemical peel and might work for you. However one has to be careful while using it as improper use may actually produce more pigmentation. There are a number of treatments available for acne pigmentation. Treatment is very easy if you are on the right medications. General advice regarding treatment is available online on a number of medical websites but which treatments will work for you will depend on what your skin looks like and the severity. DermNet NZ is a good website for general patient information if you want to have a look. However one should not use treatment without medical advice as not all creams/ medications are suitable for all types of acne and acne scarring/pigmentation. Some creams can actually make your skin worse if improperly used.
