Question:
I have this chafing thats been worrying me for 3 months now (between sept & nov). Its between my inner thighs. I hve been applying johnson baby powder to relieve the irritation. The irritation is unbearable towards the middle of the day at work, even if the powder is applied. I move around a lot walking and there are times I have to wear a cover-all over my clothes (shirts and pants with the undergarms) mainly because I deal with engineering though it makes me all the more uncomfortable.
I have a dark brown skin and that particular portion of my thigh has already turned black. But the irritation goes nil after I rest somewhere that is air-conditioned. I consulted a doctor a few months back for this, but he prescribed meds for jock-itch instead, which i didnt have. The portion isnt itchy at all. But the irritation, the rubbing sensation, between my thighs when I walk is the one thats disturbing me.
I remember someone telling me once this happens often due to excessive sweating in the groin and thigh areas or wearing tight clothing. If this is be the reason, yes I used to sweat a lot during my final college months prior to this condition started and wore tight under wears
What do you think is the remedy for this? Can I get back the color on my inner thighs?
Answer:
Dear Nimqus,
Thanks for visiting my site. Chafing is simply caused by your thighs rubbing. It is not a disease as such but I can certainly empathise with your distress. Here are a few things you can do to help with the problem and pigmentation:
1. Weight loss (if over weight and even if not- will help)
2. Use cotton garments only and tight fitting ones (not loose fits, which move around and cause more friction)
3. Use a moisturiser on the area as many times as you can
4. When at home wear loose shorts/ dhoti and let the skin ‘air’ as much as possible
Hope that’s helpful

Doctor,
Thanks a lot for the input.
I have the following doubts regarding the points you listed:
I’m 5’10” and weigh 172 pounds (average built in appearance) – Am I overweight by any chance?
I have been using a moisturizing lotion for the past three months mainly due to the onset of winter in the region where I reside. I live in Middle East which is experiencing winter for the past few months. I apply this lotion all over my body except the affected area (labeled Vaseline Total Moisture Conditioning lotion with Vitamins E and A) everyday morning before going to work. I also have this one which is 24hr Moisturizing lotion by (Johnson&Johnson).
Could any of these be applied on the affected area?
As to wearing tight-fitting clothes – I have no option but to wear my formals when I go to work which does contribute a lot to the problem and at home I usually wear shorts which cause a lot of friction. Considering what you told, I guess I have to consider wearing the ones you told which reduce the friction to max.
There is something else I missed to include in my previous post. Sometimes, I get this sweaty feeling in the affected portion when I sleep facing one side (either left or right), when the the legs are positioned such that one is placed over the other which I often notice either in the middle of the night or when I wake up in the morning. I don’t know if its the climate that’s been causing this or the chafing alone.

Don;t think you are overweight going by your height and weight. Any moisturizing cream should do. Please do leave feedback on my ‘review’ page if you were happy with my service.
